Outstanding Graduate, Spring 2026
Madelyn Wolf
Curiosity has a way of redirecting a life. For Madelyn Wolf, that curiosity led from nursing to the dynamic world of information technology, where problem-solving and systems thinking became a natural fit.
Wolf will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in information technology at The Polytechnic School, part of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University. She found her path in cybersecurity, drawn to both its complexity and its impact.
“I’ve always been curious about how technology works behind the scenes,” she says. “Cybersecurity stood out to me because it combines critical thinking with real-world impact, and it felt like a better fit for my strengths.”
During her time at ASU, Wolf took on projects that bridged theory and real-world application. One of her most impactful experiences was conducting a security risk assessment for a regional bank’s data center. Using the National Institute of Standards and Technology Cybersecurity Framework, she identified vulnerabilities across systems and developed strategies to strengthen protection, detection and response. The result was a comprehensive plan that supported both security and business continuity.
She also brought a personal passion to life through Mindful Nourish, a website she designed and developed to promote sustainable wellness habits. The platform includes tools like a total daily energy expenditure calculator, nutrition resources and habit-building guidance with the end result being a user-friendly platform with tools to support long-term lifestyle changes.
“This project was especially meaningful to me because it was inspired by my own wellness journey,” Wolf says.
Her dedication and growth were recognized with this Outstanding Graduate award, an honor she considers her proudest accomplishment. This honor affirmed her persistence and reinforced her confidence as she prepares for the next step.
Mentorship played a key role in her journey. Working as a teaching assistant for John Lewis, an instructor in the information technology program, helped her think strategically about her future, while Tatiana Walsh, an associate teaching professor and program chair, provided guidance that strengthened both her academic and professional development.
After graduation, she plans to remain in the Phoenix area, pursue a career in information technology security and continue her education through a master’s degree in artificial intelligence engineering with a focus on human-centered artificial intelligence at ASU.
Her advice to others is simple and grounded.
“Stay curious and do not be discouraged by challenges, because engineering is a field where learning never really stops,” she says.
