Impact Award, Spring 2026
Fuad Hossain
Fuad Hossain’s early interest in microelectronics started with taking apart his desktop computer. As he examined each component, he became fascinated by how tiny processors could power entire systems — and he wanted to understand how those systems are designed and built.
That curiosity led him to the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, part of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University, where he pursued a degree in electrical engineering and immersed himself in hands-on opportunities.
During his time at ASU, Hossain built a strong foundation in semiconductor and microelectronics work. Through a Fulton Undergraduate Research Initiative project under the guidance of Associate Professor Umbero Celano, he focused on improving how complex semiconductor metrology data is visualized, making it easier for researchers to interpret and communicate results.
A course in digital systems and very large-scale integration, or VSLI, helped Hossain understand how computers function at a deeper level.
“That class made everything click and confirmed I was in the right place,” he says.
While at ASU, Hossain prioritized leadership and service opportunities. As a lead tutor at the Fulton Schools tutoring center, he supported peers in building confidence and succeeding academically. He led an Engineering Projects in Community Service initiative called Project C.U.R.E. that refurbished medical equipment for under-resourced hospitals.
“I got involved because I wanted to use engineering in a way that directly helps people and creates real-world impact beyond the classroom,” he says.
He also served as planning chair in Alpha Lambda Mu, where he organized internal and community events, helping members with resumé reviews, internship preparation and career direction.
“It was truly meaningful because I was once a new student who needed guidance, and now I get to support others and find their path faster,” he says.
Outside the classroom, Hossain applied his real-world skills during internship experiences with onsemi and Marvell Technology, Inc., demonstrated how classroom concepts translate directly into industry applications and reinforced the scale and impact of his work.
After graduation, Hossain will relocate to Silicon Valley and join Marvell Technology, Inc. as a product engineer supporting the validation of chips used for artificial intelligence hyperscaler applications. Long-term, he aims to drive advancements in semiconductor technology and pursue his doctorate.
“I would love to be part of breakthroughs that make computing faster, more energy-efficient and more accessible, especially as AI continues to grow,” he says.
