Outstanding Graduate, Spring 2026
Carolyn Morton
College often gives students the space to discover that their original interests may not be the path they ultimately pursue, and that was the case for Carolyn Morton. Initially drawn to aviation, she explored different directions before realizing she was still searching for the right fit.
She found that fit in the technological entrepreneurship and management program in The Polytechnic School, part of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University.
“I was drawn to its emphasis on innovation, problem-solving and real-world application, and I quickly found a sense of purpose in learning how to turn ideas into impactful solutions,” Morton says.
A defining part of her ASU experience was the support of faculty who challenged her academically and professionally while offering mentorship beyond the classroom.
One standout experience was her involvement with the Women in Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management club, where she served as president. When she stepped into the role, the organization faced low membership and a lack of structure. With limited guidance, she rebuilt it from the ground up by forming a strong leadership team, re-engaging students and establishing a clear vision. Under her leadership, membership grew to more than 60 active members and developed a strong sense of community.
The guidance she received during that time came from a faculty member who made the greatest impact on her time at ASU. Joy Griffin, assistant teaching professor in the technological entrepreneurship and management program and faculty advisor for the Women in Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management club, gave her the confidence to rebuild and grow the student organization. Prior to that, Griffin was teaching the class that helped Morton discover her passion for leadership and business.
“What sets her apart is how she combines real-world application with genuine care for her students,” Morton says. “She fosters an environment where everyone feels heard and challenges us to think critically about leadership and ethics. Overall, Professor Griffin has had a lasting impact on my leadership, confidence and career direction.”
After graduation, Morton will continue working with Innovate Cybersecurity in Tempe, where she completed an internship, and will focus on business development and building meaningful connections between teams, clients and industry partners. Her long-term goals include helping technology startups grow, innovate and achieve their goals.
“I hope to work at the intersection of entrepreneurship and engineering, supporting teams as they turn innovative ideas into real-world solutions,” Morton says.
