Zhengtao Gan

New faculty member Zhengtao Gan joins Arizona State University, bringing a wealth of knowledge in advanced manufacturing. In this new endeavor, he hopes to make impactful contributions to the academic community and beyond.

After serving as an assistant professor at The University of Texas at El Paso, Gan will now transition to assistant professor of manufacturing engineering in the School of Manufacturing Systems and Networks, part of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at ASU.

With a strong background in synchrotron radiation experiments, multiphase and multiphysics computational modeling and digital twins, Gan will be an asset to the Fulton Schools. He looks forward to collaborating with Brookhaven National Laboratory and Argonne National Laboratory.

Gan plans to teach multiphysics modeling and simulations of advanced manufacturing processes, with a particular focus on multiphysics finite element software. 

“I was inspired by how a single universal theory, such as the theory of elasticity, can describe and predict numerous phenomena,” Gan says.

Gan’s accomplishments have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Top Performer Award from the Air Force Research Laboratory in 2020 and first-place awards at the National Institute of Standards and Technology Additive Manufacturing Benchmark Test Series competitions in 2018 and 2022.

Driven by a desire to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in a rapidly evolving landscape, Gan hopes to continue to learn and develop alongside his students.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Gan is an accomplished singer, having practiced opera, musical and choral music for three years. He also enjoys traveling the world, promising to bring a vibrant perspective to the ASU community.

“I aim to discover new theories and models to establish the linkages between manufacturing processes, microstructure and designed properties,” Gan says.
