Xiangyu Guo

Drawn by the mission of the School of Manufacturing Systems and Networks, Assistant Professor Xiangyu Guo is set to join the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University in January 2025. Her decision to join ASU was influenced by the strong alignment between the school’s mission and her own research passions.

Guo’s fascination with manufacturing began early on, sparked by an innate curiosity about how things are made. She views manufacturing as the foundation of modern life and a field with limitless potential.

“It’s not just about making things; it’s about making them better, faster and more efficiently,” Guo says. “My focus on optical methods comes from a belief that this is where the future lies. The precision these methods offer is remarkable, with vast potential to explore.”

Guo is particularly excited about the chance to collaborate with colleagues at ASU who share her dedication to advancing manufacturing research. She looks forward to building her own research lab and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students on their projects, welcoming the chance to include them in her research.

“It’s about sharing my knowledge and passion with students and colleagues, and potentially sparking new ideas that could help shape the future of manufacturing,” she says.

She believes ASU’s commitment to innovation creates the perfect environment for her work to flourish. 

“ASU’s dedication to innovation will help me shape the next generation of professionals in this field,” Guo says. “And I must admit, I love the views in Arizona.”

As she prepares to join ASU, Guo encourages her future students to bring their enthusiasm, creativity and collaborative spirit to her courses. 

“I’m looking for students who are curious and eager to learn,” she says. “Be ready to get hands-on with practical work!”
