Siyuan Song

Siyuan Song says the dynamic and complex nature of construction sites sparked her interest in engineering. 

“I enjoy finding solutions to problems involving people, equipment and technology using engineering methods,” Song says. 

Song continues her engineering career in a new role as an associate professor of construction engineering in the Del E. Webb School of Construction in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, part of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University.

She says she was drawn to ASU because the Del E. Webb School of Construction is one of the top construction schools in the nation. 

“Arizona’s rapid growth provides unique opportunities to advance my research and teaching in construction safety and health,” Song says. “I am excited to collaborate with ASU faculty and local construction industries to enhance safety practices, improve health standards and educate the next generation of safety professionals.”

Prior to joining the Fulton Schools, Song worked as an assistant professor at the University of Alabama.

She was honored with the 2023 University of Alabama 18 Under 31 Young Alumni Award and the 2022 American Society of Civil Engineers ExCEEd Teaching Fellow for Excellence in Civil Engineering Education. Song also received the 2023 Best Division Paper at the American Society for Engineering Education Annual Conference (Construction Engineering Division) and received the 2023 Outstanding Contribution to Workplace Industry Training Practitioner Award at the Immersive Learning Research Network Annual Conference. 

Song will teach advanced construction safety engineering and management. She encourages her students to be prepared to build on their foundational knowledge in construction engineering and management, construction safety and health and construction technology.

“The constant evolution in construction creates a strong need to enhance safety, efficiency and productivity, which keeps me engaged and motivated,” Song says.
