Joy Griffin
Lecturer, Technological entrepreneurship and management
Joy Griffin was drawn to the technological entrepreneurship and management program in The Polytechnic School, one of the seven schools in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University, due to what she calls a cutting-edge curriculum and outstanding faculty.
“I had the benefit of seeing the program’s student outcomes firsthand as a member of the TEM industry advisory board,” Griffin says. “I’m looking forward to contributing to student success.”
Prior to joining the ASU faculty as a lecturer, Griffin was a strategic business consultant and adjunct faculty at California State University, Northridge, in the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics.
While working at CSUN, Griffin taught in the marketing and management departments and served as director of the business honors program.
She has been the faculty advisor for award-winning student consulting teams at the national Small Business Institute Project of the Year competition for eight consecutive years.
Before working in academia, Griffin co-founded a large-scale, engineering-based company in the printer technology space. As principal of the company, she oversaw company operations and implemented an organic growth strategy to achieve revenues exceeding $100 million annually.
In her consulting practice, Griffin’s clients ranged from Fortune 500 companies to Wall Street analysts and private equity firms.
At ASU, she looks forward to using her experience and expertise to help students follow their passions and create viable enterprises.
“Many students believe that success stems from luck, and I believe that success comes when preparation and opportunity intersect,” Griffin says.
She will be teaching courses that examine entrepreneurship, free enterprise and conscious capitalism from legal, managerial and interdisciplinary perspectives.
“Students taking my classes should be prepared to roll up their sleeves and get to work using a hands-on, experiential approach to learning,” Griffin says.
Outside of the classroom, Griffin says that she is a curious person.
“In my free time, I enjoy reading, studying new things and watching documentaries,” Griffin says. “I enjoy spending time in nature and traveling with my husband and our 11-year-old daughter.”
