Suzan Allaham
Lecturer, Academic and student affairs
Suzan Allaham recognizes the importance of passing knowledge and real-life experience to the next generation of engineers, and that inspired her to join the academic world after years in industry.
“Throughout my work experience, I was an educator and mentor to engineers and internship students,” she says. “The secret to my engineering achievements is my ability to give any instruction in clear, detailed steps. It’s a skill I inherited from my parents, both of whom were educators.”
Prior to becoming a lecturer in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University, Allaham taught engineering students around the globe starting at the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan, and most recently in the Phoenix area at South Mountain Community College, Estrella Mountain Community College and Grand Canyon University.
“I am excited about the opportunity to join the engineering program as a lecturer and continue my passion for engineering education at ASU,” she says. “ASU is very supportive of innovation and has a very diverse environment.”
This semester Allaham will be teaching FSE 100 Introduction to Engineering, FSE 104 EPICS Gold and FSE 404 EPICS Gold: EPICS in Action.
“Getting to work on a real project starting in their first year is an exceptional experience for engineering students,” she says. “I am very excited to work with students on community service projects and guide their contribution to serving the community in the EPICS program.”
Allaham says that her teaching methodology encourages students to pursue innovative ideas that support the understanding of engineering concepts.
“The world is experiencing an engineering revolution at all levels, where engineers improve the quality of life and make the world a better place to live,” she says.
Allaham will also be starting as a Fulton Schools student herself as she works towards a doctoral degree in engineering education systems and design.
Outside of the classroom, Allaham likes to cook, read and travel. She is also a mother of two daughters and loves to spend time with her family.
