Nidhin Kurian Kalarickal
Assistant Professor, Electrical engineering
During his undergraduate studies, semiconductors captivated Nidhin Kurian Kalarickal. The widespread use of these materials in modern technology made him realize what an important role they play in the world.
This fascination stuck with Kalarickal throughout his doctoral studies at The Ohio State University, where developing semiconductors became his main topic of expertise.
“The problems you encounter are fun and exciting to solve with semiconductors, and at the same time address device level solutions to critical areas like energy, communication and health,” Kalarickal says.
In his new role as an assistant professor in the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, one of the seven Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University, Kalarickal will teach the EEE 202 class Circuits I. The class provides an introduction to the world of circuits for students, laying the foundation for much of their engineering studies.
Kalarickal’s research at ASU will focus on wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconductors, which he believes show immense promise for applications in power electronics, radio frequency and millimeter wave circuits and electronics for extreme environments.
Kalarickal is most looking forward to working with students in his new role.
“Being a teacher and an advisor is an honor, and at the same time a significant responsibility in shaping the future,” he says. “I truly believe that my success is reflected in the success of my students.”
Kalarickal decided to join ASU because he believes the faculty expertise in the area of semiconductor devices is among the best in the world. Combined with Phoenix’s growing semiconductor industry and research facilities that Kalarickal calls world-class, he says his new role will have excellent opportunities for research collaboration and learning.
When not working, Kalarickal enjoys playing sports such as tennis, badminton and cricket. An avid film fan, he also likes to spend a lot of time watching movies.
