Pranut Jain
Assistant Teaching Professor, software engineering
Pranut Jain is joining the Sun Devil community as an assistant teaching professor in the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence, part of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University. He comes to ASU after matriculating at the University of Pittsburgh to earn a doctoral degree in computer science.
The allure of ASU’s renowned reputation for research, teaching excellence and diverse learning environments led Jain to the institution. As an advocate for inclusive education, he was drawn to ASU’s robust online learning program, which facilitates global student engagement and collaboration.
Central to Jain’s excitement for his new role is exploring online learning methodologies. Recognizing the challenges and opportunities inherent in asynchronous learning, he aims to leverage technology to deliver an enriching educational experience for students across the globe.
Jain’s expertise lies in the design of intelligent agent systems, enhancing user communication and delving into the realms of security and privacy. Video games initially sparked his fascination with technology, fueling his curiosity about the vast possibilities of software creation. This passion continues to drive him forward in the quickly evolving landscape of computer science and software engineering.
“Computer science and software engineering research is progressing rapidly,” Jain says. “New and exciting innovations are creating public interest, so I want to keep up-to-date and contribute to innovative research while motivating students to pursue exciting research areas in computer science.”
Teaching a lineup of courses, including SER 315 Software Enterprise: Design and Process, SER 421 Web-Based Applications and SER 334 Operating Systems and System Programming, Jain encourages his students to actively participate and engage in class discussions. His interactive teaching approach stimulates critical thinking and application development, equipping students with practical skills for their future careers.
Throughout his journey, Jain has received several accolades, including the Best Student Paper Award at the IEEE Trust Privacy and Security 2020 Conference and the Best Paper Honorable Mention Award at ACM Designing Interactive Systems 2022 Conference. These achievements underscore his dedication to pushing the boundaries of innovation and his significant contributions to the field of computer science.
Beyond academia, Jain is an avid sports enthusiast, enjoying activities like racquetball, soccer and hiking. His diverse interests mirror his commitment to a well-rounded life that balances scholarly pursuits with personal growth and enjoyment.
