Jaejong Baek
Assistant Teaching Professor, computer science and engineering
Jaejong Baek is no stranger to the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University. Baek has worked in various roles at ASU since 2016, most recently as an assistant research scientist collaborating with Professor Gail-Joon Ahn in the Center for Cybersecurity and Trusted Foundations and the Laboratory of Security Engineering for Future Computing, or SEFCOM.
Baek says ASU’s culture, central location and reputation attract initiative-taking undergraduate and graduate students and make the university a desirable place to work.
“I have opportunities to work with outstanding students here,” Baek says. “In addition, the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence is going through an expansion phase, and it will be an amazing experience being part of this exciting transition.”
As he moves from a research position into the teaching realm, Baek is excited about what lies ahead.
“Connecting with students and building meaningful relationships can create a positive and supportive learning environment,” Baek says. “Also, designing and developing new course content can be a creative process that allows tailoring the curriculum to meet the needs of your students.”
This fall, Baek will teach three courses: CSE 365 Information Assurance, CSE 469 Computer and Network Forensics, and CSE 598 Engineering Blockchain Applications. He says students should be enthusiastic about learning the course material and be ready to work hard in the class and use time-management skills.
“By teaching others, I not only continue my own learning journey but also have the opportunity to improve people’s lives and their future,” Baek says.
In his free time, Baek goes hiking, plays tennis, listens to music, and plays the guitar.
“The School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence has a group of very supportive people, so I feel fortunate to be able to collaborate with them,” he says.
