David Claveau
Associate Teaching Professor, computer science and engineering
A growing curiosity during his early schooling to understand how computers worked and discover everything they could do ignited the spark that led David Claveau to study engineering and computer science.
His learning journey would lead to a doctoral degree in electrical and computer engineering from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, in 2007 and then a job as a systems engineer at Intel Corporation in Chandler, Arizona.
During that time, he began giving guest lectures in classes at Arizona State University.
Claveau later went on to a tenure-track position at California State University Channel Islands, where he achieved tenure after five years. He then took a position at Whittier College in California and then at the University of Arizona.
About his return to ASU this fall, Claveau says, “I had good friends and fond memories from that time at ASU, so I decided to return.”
As an associate teaching professor, he will teach two 200-level and one 500-level computer science and engineering courses, including a video processing course, in the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence.
Students should come to classes “prepared to actively participate,” Claveau says.
His students will benefit from his years of work experience and research in computer vision, computer graphics, robotics and artificial intelligence.
“Things are changing fast in all of these fields. So, we need to constantly adapt to this progress.” Cleveau says. “Very often, I now learn new things from my students. I think it’s an exciting time for both students and professors in computer science.”
Claveau says he is especially looking forward to interactions with ASU students and is excited to introduce them to new ideas and trends in his areas of expertise.
“It was fun to teach at a variety of schools in a variety of different locations,” Claveau says, “but it’s great to be back at ASU.”
