Kanu Sinha

Kanu Sinha comes to the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University full of energy and ready to make a difference in her new lab and the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering.

Since obtaining her doctoral degree in theoretical physics from the University of Maryland, College Park, Sinha has been motivated by the prospect of bringing the bizarre and beautiful world of quantum physics to reality.

“My aim is to build bridges between the concepts of quantum physics, their experimental realizations and technological applications,” says Sinha.

Sinha will build that bridge by exploring new ways to engineer atom-photon interactions in quantum systems. Atom-photon interactions are at the core of developing efficient light-matter interfaces and creating scalable quantum devices.

“The exciting advent of quantum technologies necessitates a deeper understanding of the building blocks of these devices and novel ways to engineer them,” says Sinha.

Sinha has already made a name for herself in quantum circles through her work at Princeton University and research appointments at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, Joint Quantum Institute, Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information.

Inspired by ASU’s innovative spirit and initiative towards growth, Sinha is ready to hit the ground running with her new Quantum Optics and Open Quantum Systems Group.

Although Sinha’s appointment doesn’t start until January 2022, she is already looking forward to amazing hikes in the Sonoran Desert.
