Landon Walker

Landon Walker says he’s honored to be named an outstanding graduate in construction engineering at the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, part of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University. 

“I wanted a degree that would allow me to help others and make a positive impact on the world,” he says.

Walker says his major has allowed him to explore career options in both civil engineering and construction management.

He enjoyed participating in the mediation of a problematic construction project.

“I learned that I am very good at communicating and dealing with people, which has made me lean toward construction management,” Walker says.

Walker chose to attend ASU because it is ranked No. 1 in innovation, sustainability and global impact.

Among his accomplishments, Walker participated in the 2023–24 Associated Schools of Construction Reno Competition, where he used his classroom knowledge in real-world applications and won the Judge’s Award. He also received an engineering scholarship and took part in Sun Devil Motorsports.

“Engineering has taught me critical thinking and problem-solving skills,” Walker says.

He says President’s Professor Keith Hjelmstad is someone who helped him grow as a student.

“He has a grading system that reduces stress for students and promotes long-term learning and retention of material,” Walker says.

Walker hopes to eventually become a project manager for a general contractor.

After graduation, he will begin working as a construction project engineer at Ryan Companies in Phoenix.

“I look forward to building projects that stimulate the economy and improve the lifestyle of the surrounding communities,” Walker says.
