Grand Challenges Scholar, Fall 2024

Sarva Gupta

Sarva Gupta, a new graduate of computer science in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University, says computer science is a boundless field of opportunity.

“I love being in STEM, especially engineering,” Gupta says. “Computer science is such a broad field that I’m able to explore different areas within it and be able to further pursue what I’m most interested in.”

Gupta never missed a chance to get involved in her community. As a Grand Challenges Scholar and student of Barrett, the Honors College, Gupta has enhanced her student experience as a Fulton Ambassador and supported students as a Barrett mentor, Engineering Futures mentor, teaching assistant, Barrett Summer Scholars Ambassador and E2 counselor.

“Being able to perform each of those roles well and accomplish their respective end goals proved to be the biggest achievements of my college career,” she says. “I gained so many interpersonal and professional skills while acting as a mentor, leader and advocate for ASU, the Fulton Schools and Barrett.”

Gupta has received the New American University Scholarship, the Sun Devil Award and a SUN Award for her contributions to the community.

“Since starting my major, my life goal has been to help people using my knowledge and expertise,” she says. “As an engineer in the technology field, I am able to apply my skills to so many different areas and ultimately help make life easier and more efficient.”

Gupta notes that the engineering community and its rewarding curriculum have become a crucial part of her life perspective. She recalls her honors thesis being the most memorable project of her academic career because of the project’s potential impact.

“I was working on improving how ASU can provide better and more direct access to mental health resources for its students by proposing a website redesign,” Gupta says. “I always aim to make the world a better place.”

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in just three and a half years, Gupta plans to cultivate her skills and continue her education at ASU to pursue a Master of Computer Science through the accelerated master’s degree program.
