Hudson Whillock

Hudson Whillock says the most rewarding experience of his undergraduate years has been “seeing all of my hard work pay off.”

Whillock’s academics efforts earned him a place on the dean’s list every semester. He is graduating with summa cum laude honors, and through the Fulton Schools 4+1 accelerated degree program, he is on course to earn a master’s degree in industrial engineering in December 2020.

Whillock also received the Philip and Laura Wolfe Scholarship to help support his studies and was able find student internships with major companies such as Abbott Laboratories, Raytheon Missile Systems and Intel.

Beyond classwork, he was a member of the ASU chapter of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineering, giving him opportunities to network with students, faculty and industry representatives and to attend professional workshops and conferences.

Whillock came to ASU because of the industrial engineering graduate program’s high ranking among similar programs at the nation’s other top colleges and universities. Once he earns his graduate degree, he has some specific career aspirations in mind.

“I plan to work in industry and teach classes at the college level,” he says. “Working in industry will give me the opportunity to contribute to the technological advancement in society. Teaching will allow me to pass along knowledge to hungry minds.”

Whillock has been gaining experience as an educator by serving as a teaching assistant at ASU the past four semesters.

“To me, there is no better feeling than helping others,” he says.

He is graduating filled with gratitude for the amazing support he received from his parents.

“My mom showed me how valuable education can be. My dad is the hardest worker I know,” Whillock says. “My parents are my role models.”
