Cassandra Jolynn Buffington

Cassandra Jolynn Buffington is passionate about helping the environment and found her home in the environmental and resource management program in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University.

“I come from an area of the country that has faced a lot of challenges when it comes to pollution and environmental health,” Buffington says. “It means so much to me to be able to take what I’ve learned throughout my time here at ASU back to the community that I love.”

The environmental and resource management program in The Polytechnic School, one of the six Fulton Schools, provides students the opportunity to understand scientific and technological aspects of byproducts, environmental health, sustainability and natural resource conservation. Graduates are equipped with the skills needed to solve the global environmental challenges of the future.

Buffington earned the New American University Scholarship and received grants from the Public Service Academy for her participation in the Next Generation Service Corps. This four-year leadership development program at ASU fosters interdisciplinary networks and experiences to create meaningful change in the world.

Since her freshman year, Buffington was an avid member of the Environmental Resource Management Club and most recently served on the executive board. She helped organize “amazing field trips and career fairs,” which were the organization’s biggest achievements.
