Outstanding Graduate, Fall 2025
Lukah Seyler
Even as a child, Lukah Seyler felt drawn to math and science. He chose to follow his passion years later as a mechanical engineering major in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University.
“I came to ASU for the reputation of its engineering school,” Seyler says. “ASU is truly No. 1 in innovation, and that is reflected in the faculty and courses.”
During his studies, Seyler found what he learned from Joshua Wilbur, a Fulton Schools assistant teaching professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, to be particularly impactful on his education.
“Dr. Wilbur was an amazing professor,” Seyler says. “He genuinely cared that we understood concepts and took the time to fully explain anything if you asked. Beyond being a great professor, he is also a role model that I looked up to as I pursued my degree.”
As a Fulton Schools student, Seyler explored a variety of ways to get involved outside the classroom. He helped his peers succeed academically by working in the Fulton Schools Tutoring Centers, and he got involved in the ASU chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
One of Seyler’s proudest college experiences was leading mechanical engineering design for ASU Luminosity Lab projects. One of his team’s endeavors was a hydroponic gardening system for which he oversaw the design, construction and presentation processes from beginning to end.
Seyler also held internships at Accurate Sheet Metal, where he both designed and manufactured metal products, and at Intel, where he maintained and analyzed the performance of microelectronics manufacturing tools.
“Now that I’ve completed my internship at Intel, I would like to pursue a career in the semiconductor industry,” he says. “I would like to be part of the future of faster and more efficient electronics.”
Seyler aims to follow his intended career path in the Pacific Northwest. But first, he is pursuing another goal: obtaining his master’s degree in mechanical engineering through the Fulton Schools Accelerated Master’s degree program.
As he reflects on his Fulton Schools undergraduate experience, Seyler says gaining his mechanical engineering degree has changed how he sees the world.
“I look around me and wonder how different machines work, and I even get the chance to teach others,” he says. “I now experience the world in a different way than everybody else.”
