Corey Conrad Pearse

After receiving an associate’s degree in business from Pima Community College in Tucson, Corey Conrad Pearse went straight into the workforce to discover his professional calling.

Pearse secured a job as a retrieval specialist at Eventful Inc., an online calendar and events discovery service. His role focused primarily on computer software, hardware and programming. The work ignited a passion for engineering and technology.

“Engineering continuously changes the world with each new invention,” says Pearse, who decided to pursue a bachelor’s degree in information technology at Arizona State University’s Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. “With each new technology created, it changes how daily tasks are performed.”

Pearse enjoyed the flexible online program in information technology, which enabled him to work full-time while earning his degree. He sometimes found it challenging to stay on top of assignments while traveling for work but made it a priority to keep his grades up.

“It’s hard work and a long road to get through school or most things in general,” says Pearse. “It’s a large time investment but it’s a temporary situation, and the hard work and time investment now will pay off in the future.”

The most valuable piece of knowledge Pearse gained from his program was a more in-depth understanding of network utility usage. He has been able to apply this knowledge to troubleshoot network issues or track traffic flow in his current role as a software deployment and support supervisor at Modular Mining Systems.

“Corey will be a great asset to any company in the future,” says Damien Doheny, a lecturer and the undergraduate program chair of information technology programs in The Polytechnic School, one of the six Fulton Schools.

After graduation, Pearse wants to enjoy some of his free time while having to focus only on his job. He’s not quite sure what the future holds but is excited to see what possibilities or opportunities arise.

“While I don’t know where I want to go or what I want to do long term, my main aspiration is to do something that will leave a lasting impression and improve the world around us,” says Pearse. “I’d like to be part of further progressing technology and how we use it in our daily lives.”
