Outstanding Graduate, Spring 2019
Allison Meyer
Engineering was the right path for Allison Meyer as she has always had a passion for problem solving, math and science.
“I chose engineering management specifically because I wanted to not only develop my technical skills, but also learn how to be a business professional,” Meyer says. “The diversity of the major was very attractive to me, and I felt that it fit my personality well.”
The upper-division project management class offered through the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering was one of the first where she knew she was in the right major.
“I remember being so interested in the material and concepts that were being taught,” Meyer recalls. “It was the first course where I was eager to learn more.”
Professor of Practice Daniel McCarville was a particularly impactful professor who helped Meyer grow as a student.
“The way he introduced engineering and the ASU experience gave me a great first impression of the university,” Meyer notes about her ASU 101 course taught by McCarville. “I then had him for several of my core classes and noticed how much he genuinely cares about the success of his students. He teaches based on relevant industry experience and understands that everyone learns differently.”
Meyer, an honors student in Barrett, The Honors College, received the President’s Scholarship and has been on the dean’s list consistently every semester.
She is also an active member of Pi Beta Phi, a Greek organization at ASU.
“Being involved in Greek life has allowed me to give back to the ASU community through fundraising and community development,” she says.
She encourages other students to get involved in organizations and group activities on campus to foster a sense of community.
“Joining a club or organization on campus has helped me tremendously with feeling like I’m more part of the ASU community,” Meyer says. “Even just going to athletic or campus events makes you feel more connected!”
