Impact Award + University Outstanding Graduate, Spring 2024
Cameron Rennacker
With a background in graphic and print design for product packaging, Cameron Rennacker came to the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University to expand his design knowledge with a master’s degree in graphic information technology.
Rennacker’s mentors, who were also ASU graduates, inspired him to explore what the university had to offer. The graphic information technology program in The Polytechnic School, part of the Fulton Schools, and ASU community impressed him enough that he decided to attend.
The curriculum helped Rennacker think of design decisions as quantifiable.
“Design is often compared to art — but it’s not,” he says. “Design is a science.”
Rennacker served as project manager and creative director for the GIT Creative Agency, part of the graphic information technology program in which students get hands-on creative work experience.
During his time at the agency, Rennacker oversaw a team for two semesters that worked on projects for the UCDA Design Education Summit, a conference that will be held on ASU’s Polytechnic campus in late May, and the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency for a hackathon event that took place in April at the ASU Chandler Innovation Center.
Rennacker also started his own design agency business, Rennacker Studio, which he says has grown to serve clients in Arizona and California. He also became a mentor in the Arizona chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, a networking organization for creative professionals.
Rennacker has applied to go from student to instructor in his graphic information technology program after he graduates. In the long term, he aims to increase accessibility and inclusivity in digital design instruction and products.
“When you take the time to consider how someone who is blind might shop on your e-commerce website or how you represent marginalized groups of people in your app, the benefits far outweigh the costs of taking the time to build the product right from the beginning,” Rennacker says.
