Impact Award, Fall 2025
Caidyn Spickler
Caidyn Spickler always knew she would attend Arizona State University. With alumni parents and fond memories of growing up attending camps and events on campus, ASU has always felt like home.
“When I chose to pursue engineering, why would I go anywhere but the nation’s No. 1 school in innovation?” she says.
While maintaining a 4.00 GPA during her time at ASU, Spickler also served as an undergraduate teaching assistant and collaborated with Engineers Without Borders. She joined the Society of Women Engineers and conducted research in the Semiconductor Devices Research Lab, led by Assistant Professor Ying-Chen (Daphne) Chen, who she praises as an amazing mentor.
In addition, she participated in the Engineering Projects in Community Service, or EPICS, program, working on a plastic recycling and reprocessing project for the Simien Mountains National Park in Debark, Ethiopia.
“I joined EPICS because I wanted to use my engineering skills to help people in ways that went beyond the classroom,” she says. “It was also exciting to collaborate with students from different engineering disciplines and see how our diverse skill sets came together to create something that could make a real impact.”
Spickler credits Professor of Practice Steven Millman, Teaching Professor Marnie Wong and Faculty Associate Seth Abraham as being instrumental in helping her grow as a student. She adds that the commitment from these faculty members has been inspirational, and she hopes to one day return to ASU as a professor of practice herself.
Outside of the classroom, she volunteered as a youth basketball coach, participated in Pat’s Run each year and will compete in a marathon just five days before graduating in December.
“My time at ASU has been full of opportunities to learn, lead, and give back. I’ve loved every moment of it,” she adds.
After graduating, Spickler plans to continue her studies at ASU in the electrical engineering Accelerated Master’s degree program with a focus on mixed-signal design. This summer, she will travel to Austin, Texas, to work in the semiconductor industry.
Long term, Spickler plans to pursue a master’s degree in business administration, aiming to combine her technical background with strong business insights.
“My goal is to bridge the gap between engineering and strategy, using my hands-on experience in design and development to influence decisions that shape future technologies and company growth,” she says.
