Outstanding Graduate, Fall 2025

Alexander Gehrmann

Alexander Gehrmann says that the first time he visited Arizona State University’s Tempe campus, he felt at home. In addition to the campus, the reputation of the construction management and technology undergraduate degree program in the Del E. Webb School of Construction, part of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at ASU, sold him on attending the university.

“Almost everything about what construction management has to offer is what I was looking for in a career,” Gehrmann says. “I chose this major because it challenges me to keep learning while allowing me to build tangible results that make a lasting impact on my community.”

He knew he was on the right path during his first internship at LJA Engineering, where he saw the skills he learned in class applied in the field.

“Concepts that once existed only in drawings or lectures suddenly became part of something real — something I could walk through, coordinate and help build,” Gehrmann says.

He also held internships at Ryan Companies, where he was involved in building a Fortune 500 company’s headquarters, and Willmeng Construction, where he gained insight into executive-level leadership and project management.

Beyond internships, Gehrmann became heavily involved in student organizations. He was president of the ASU chapter of the Sigma Lambda Chi International Construction Honor Society and participated on ASU teams for Associated Schools of Construction competitions, where students put their learning to the test against teams from other institutions.

Gehrmann also deepened his Catholic faith through Saint Paul’s Outreach, a ministry organization in which he served as leader for a household of 10 organization members.

“Saint Paul’s Outreach’s mission to build faith-centered communities and form people for a lifelong mission motivated me to serve others, grow in faith and help create a culture of genuine friendship and purpose on campus,” he says.

After graduation, Gehrmann will serve as a missionary for Saint Paul’s Outreach on the ASU Tempe campus. In the longer term, he aims to gain a leadership role in construction to build the structures that many in his own community will use.

“Every project we build — whether it’s a school, hospital or community center— has a lasting effect on the people who use it,” Gehrmann says. “This degree has taught me how to lead teams, solve problems and manage projects that make those spaces possible.”
