Ranjan Ganguli

Associate teaching professor, mechanical and aerospace engineering

After working in industry and academia for more than two decades in locations around the U.S., Europe and Asia, Ranjan Ganguli decided to join the faculty at Arizona State University.

“I came here because ASU has a vibrant student atmosphere,” Ganguli says.

A new associate teaching professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering in the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy, part of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at ASU, he looks forward to working in aerospace engineering teaching, research and design in his role. In addition to years of experience and expertise in aircraft, Ganguli expanded his skills into the software world as well: He developed educational content and wrote books on digital twins and machine learning, and he created satellite internet software for Viasat.

Ganguli joins ASU after working as a founder and entrepreneur running his company, Digital Predilection LLC, which provided consulting services and created media products for science, technology, engineering and math topics. His industry experience includes working at Pratt & Whitney and General Electric in engineering roles. Ganguli also spent 21 years as a faculty member in the Indian Institute of Science, where he progressed from assistant professor to professor.

In his new position, Ganguli will teach students in MEE 322 Structural Mechanics, AEE 344 Fundamentals of Aircraft Design, AEE 468 Aircraft Systems Design and AEE 478 Fundamentals of Autonomous Aircraft Systems. He says students should be prepared to complete a well-rounded variety of tests, projects and papers in his courses.

Throughout his career, Ganguli has received numerous awards and honors from professional organizations. His achievements include the titles of Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Fulbright senior research fellow. Ganguli has also served as a Humboldt Research Fellow, National Research Foundation of Korea Fellow and a German Research Foundation Fellow.
