Paniz Hazaveh
Associate teaching professor, engineering
Paniz Hazaveh knew she wanted to pursue working with electronics since she was a child.
“I was one of the lucky ones — I always loved electrical engineering,” Hazaveh says. “I’ve always been strong in math and deeply curious about electricity, so choosing to work with electronics felt natural, and I’ve never looked back.”
She now joins the School of Integrated Engineering, part of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University, as an associate teaching professor of engineering. In her new role, Hazaveh plans to be among those building up the engineering science program, which launched in fall 2024 as one of the first Fulton Schools programs offered on the West Valley campus of ASU.
“I came to ASU to expand my horizons and help grow the engineering science program in the West Valley,” she says.
Before joining ASU, Hazaveh worked at her alma mater, Michigan Technological University, or MTU, as an associate teaching professor and program director for electrical engineering technology and mechatronics, which combines mechanical technology and electronics. While at MTU, Hazaveh co-founded and led the mechatronics bachelor’s degree program, one of her most prominent career achievements.
She is also co-principal investigator for a U.S. National Science Foundation-funded project researching experiential learning for the mechatronics workforce in Michigan. As a result of her accomplishments, Hazaveh was inducted into the MTU Academy of Teaching Excellence in 2025.
While she is comfortable teaching almost any class, her focus in the School of Integrated Engineering will be project-based classes, a key part of the school’s hands-on curriculum. This focus builds on her experience at MTU, where she emphasized hands-on learning through worksheets, labs and project-based learning. Hazaveh says that in her classes, students should be prepared to have fun while learning.
Outside of the classroom, she enjoys exercising, mountain biking and skiing.
