Outstanding Graduate, Fall 2023
Zoe Webb
Zoe Webb chose to study engineering management at Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering because she considered the degree to have the perfect combination of math, science and people skills.
Enriched with a passion for problem-solving, Webb found her path in engineering by combining technical skills with strong interpersonal abilities.
She knew engineering was right for her when she took IEE 369 Work Analysis and Design, taught by Daniel McCarville, a professor in the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence, or SCAI. Webb enjoyed the “real-world applications” in the lab, and the content solidified her interest in the field. Her academic excellence has been recognized with the New American University Provost’s Award.
“I love engineering because it feels like a puzzle,” Webb says. “I absolutely love solving puzzles.”
Throughout her academic journey, Zoe engaged in campus life as a teaching assistant and mentor in SCAI. Outside of the classroom, she worked at Avnet as an industrial engineer.
She looks forward to continuing her contributions and advancing women’s presence in engineering. Webb values and supports women’s representation in engineering fields, recognizing their unique perspectives, problem-solving skills and attention to detail. She knows that women like her play a vital role in shaping the future of engineering.
Webb is continuing her education at ASU with an accelerated master’s degree in industrial engineering after her undergraduate studies.
Webb says her major, engineering management, impacts the lives of others by making jobs safer and easier, all while planning projects that benefit the community. As she looks forward to graduate work in industrial engineering and a long-term career, Webb envisions herself contributing to great engineering achievements that enhance safety and efficiency in various industries.
“Engineering has changed my life in many ways,” Webb says. “It has made me appreciate the world’s complexity and interconnectedness through numbers.”
