ASU’s first human MRI enables breakthrough clinical studies

With ASU’s first MRI system approved for human scanning, university researchers will be able to do deeper studies of brain function, aging and diseases. Providing insights into brain functions by detecting changes linked to neural activity, the system is expected to reveal patterns that will help researchers see how various changes in different regions contribute to ongoing biological processes. Developing new MRI pulse sequences through high magnetic field strength and sensitive detection hardware will also enable better detection of indicators of diseases and other potential health threats. Among researchers involved in work related to these and similar endeavors are Professor Vikram Kodibagkar and Assistant Professor Scott Beeman, faculty members in School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering , part of the Fulton Schools.
