ASU’s growing research impact is motivating Phoenix city leaders to strive to position itself as a hub for quantum technology innovation. The new Phoenix Quantum Strategy project is being led by Sethuraman Panchanathan, the University Professor of Technology and Innovation in the Fulton Schools. The plan is to build on Arizona’s semiconductor industry and research operations to spark an evolution of quantum technologies as a driver of economic growth. Panchanathan says the venture is in its early stages and will focus on building the foundational structures needed to produce long-term success. Christian Arenz, a professor at the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, part of the Fulton Schools, and Michael Goryll, also a professor in the school, point to some big challenges posed by the goals of such an endeavor, which several other states are also striving to achieve.
