Ziyi Huang

Assistant professor, biomedical engineering

Ziyi Huang, an assistant professor of biomedical engineering in the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering, part of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University, chose to come to ASU due to the institution’s distinct combination of innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration and strong investment in artificial intelligence, or AI.

Huang earned her doctoral degree in electrical engineering from Columbia University and her bachelor’s degree in information science from the University of Science and Technology of China.

“My research on trustworthy AI for health aligns closely with ASU’s ongoing initiatives, particularly the groundbreaking efforts of the Mayo Clinic and Arizona State University Alliance for Health Care,” Huang says.

She says she is excited for the future of her research in the Fulton Schools.

“I am eager to collaborate with interdisciplinary researchers in mathematics, computer science and clinical practice to address challenges related to trustworthiness and to promote transparency across broader AI applications in health care,” Huang says. “I stay in this field because it allows me to translate machine learning into clinical impact, creating robust, interpretable and fair frameworks that improve patient safety and advance precision medicine.”

Huang will be teaching courses relevant to trustworthy AI and risk-aware decision making. She is looking forward to sharing her knowledge about trustworthy and responsible AI as well as risk-aware machine learning with students eager to learn.

Beyond her academic work, Huang pursues her interests in piano and jogging, which she says provide her both creative expression and personal well-being.
