Abdallah Moubayed
Assistant Teaching Professor, software engineering
Abdallah Moubayed has always been passionate about math and physics, leading him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. While exploring research in machine learning, he became deeply fascinated by the field, leading him to focus on computer and software engineering.
The continuously evolving technology and direct impact software engineering has on people’s lives keeps Moubayed interested in the subject.
This fall, he joins the faculty of the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence, part of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University, following an assistant professor position in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Lebanese American University in Jubayl, Lebanon.
Moubayed was interested in working at ASU because of the university’s excellent software engineering program, particularly its online delivery option.
“This attracted me to apply for a position at ASU as it can offer me the opportunity to further develop as an educator and collaborate with leading researchers,” Moubayed says.
In addition to working with exceptional software engineering teachers and researchers in the Fulton Schools, he is excited to interact with students from diverse backgrounds.
In his first semester, Moubayed is teaching ASU Online courses SER 322 Principles of Database Management, which teaches the fundamentals of modeling and managing data-oriented systems, and SER 335 Engineering Secure Software Systems, which focuses on using a variety of software engineering principles for security over the life cycle of a system.
He is also teaching graduate course CSE 565 Software Verification, Validation, and Testing on the ASU Polytechnic campus. Students in CSE 565 will learn a variety of testing techniques, tools, reliability models and more to build important skills for their careers.
“Students should be prepared to think critically and be able to explore different possible solutions before deciding on a final answer for any problem at hand,” Moubayed says.
He received an award for his work as a graduate student teaching assistant at Canada’s Western University and has consistently received high-scoring evaluations for his past teaching there and at the Lebanese American University.
Outside of teaching, Moubayed enjoys watching movies and TV series. Some of his favorite genres include action, science fiction, comedy and anime. He is also an enthusiastic soccer fan, especially of European leagues.
