Monica Staniszewski values the degree she has earned in operations management as an excellent complement to her work as a process development leader for Procter & Gamble.

“It has enabled me to build additional skills and learn about tools that are particularly useful when analyzing systems that we use in manufacturing as well as in the technical readiness of project development,” she says.

The fact that Arizona State University offers flexible, fully online coursework also made this applied sciences program with the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering a perfect fit for Staniszewski’s life in Cincinnati, Ohio, which she now calls home.

“Actually, I was surprised to learn that operations management was grouped with engineering degrees at the Fulton Schools,” she says. “But looking back, it makes complete sense. Engineers design and test processes, while operations teams ensure they run optimally and troubleshoot when they don’t. So, the two go hand-in-hand.”

Alongside her career and her coursework, Staniszewski has been proud to lead a Procter & Gamble organization for women working in process development, which has long been a male-dominated arena. The group’s goal is to provide a network across the corporate community that builds unity and strength.

“We want to offer tools that empower women to achieve success with an unimpeded mindset, and to drive technical connections and knowledge building for exceptional results,” she says. “I lead the global organization within our company, and I’m always happy when I hear personal stories from women who benefit from this work.”

Staniszewski also says she strives to be a role model for women who want to advance themselves professionally in engineering and related fields.

“I want to show that I’m not held back in a STEM field because I’m a woman,” she says. “I also showcase the achievements of other women in STEM at the company. They each demonstrate that we can be successful in any field we like.”

Staniszewski says she looks forward to applying what she has learned through her new degree to further her career in product development. But beyond advancing her own achievement, she wants to use what she has learned to help others grow and succeed.
