Outstanding Graduate, Fall 2019
Breanna Wright
Breanna Wright started out as an education major at Chandler-Gilbert Community College working toward her associate’s degree. But as a volunteer at Title 1 schools, where she used multimedia solutions to share children’s stories and raise awareness for fundraisers and food drives with student organizations, she soon discovered her inclination toward the graphic arts.
“I realized that I felt passionately about using multimedia solutions for good and changed my major,” said Wright.
After finishing at CGCC, she was accepted into ASU’s Next Generation Service Corps. That scholarship paired with others allowed her to transfer into the graphic information technology program at The Polytechnic School. In the program, Wright earned several awards, including the 2019 Outstanding Design Student and Design Super Star awards, the 2018 Souza Spirit Award and first place for print and digital design in 2018.
Drawing on her background in education, Wright worked with Lecturer John Hentges during her year-long independent study, which culminated in a virtual reality game that teaches children phonics.
Outside of class, Wright was an active member and president of the Poly Devil Cats, a student organization that takes responsibility for the feline residents of the Polytechnic campus.
“To date, our greatest achievement as a club has been the adoption of 17 out of the 25 cats taken into care through our partnership with local rescue AZ CARE Rescue, including kittens and adults from campus who now have homes,” she said.
Wright tells students still in school that “you will get out of your education what you put into it.”
After graduation Wright will be working in an agency setting, making videos and animations. She also plans on continuing her education by earning a master’s degree.
Wright says her time at ASU taught her that the world is full of opportunities, and “I have felt very empowered by my school to feel capable of pursuing them.”
